Jewelry Care
Dust, chemicals, cosmetics, lotions and perfumes — even the air — all conspire to dull the metallic surface of all jewelry and cloud the brilliance of gemstones. Regular cleaning and proper care are essential to maintain the shine and beauty of your pieces.
Treat your jewelry like you would your clothing — avoid contact with chemicals, chorline bleach, hand lotion and sunscreen. Never wear while showering, exercising, or in a pool or hot tub.
JEWELRY CARE TIPS:
- Whenever possible, store your jewelry in a zipper lock plastic bag to reduce contact with the air and resulting natural oxidation.
- Polish your jewelry each time before wearing with an untreated jewelry polishing cloth to maintain its brilliance and shine.
- Chemical cleaners should be avoided for all Gold Plated and Gold Vermeil jewelry as well as jewelry containing Gemstones.
- Solid Gold jewelry can be easily cleaned using a simple mixture of warm water and mild dish soap. Soak the pieces for about 5-10 minutes, then gently scrub them with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Rinse the jewelry under warm running water to remove any soap residue and pat dry with a soft, microfiber cloth.
- Sterling Silver jewelry can tarnish over time, but regular cleaning can keep it looking shiny and new. Create a cleaning solution by mixing warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap and soak the silver jewelry for about 5-10 minutes. Gently scrub with a soft toothbrush, especially in crevices where tarnish may build up. Rinse under warm water and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. For heavily tarnished pieces, a silver cleaning solution such as Tarnex may be necessary.
- The dark color of Oxidized Sterling Silver jewelry is a special applied treatment. With time and with wear, the color of oxidized metal may lighten a bit — this is a natural occurrence. Please do not attempt to clean oxidized sterling silver jewlery.
- Diamond and Gemstone jewelry can lose its brilliance if not properly cleaned. To clean, mix warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap and soak the jewelry for 5-10 minutes. Gently scrub the gem and its setting with a soft toothbrush, paying special attention to the prongs and underside of the stone. Rinse the jewelry under warm running water and dry with a microfiber cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the gemstones.
